Urban Narrative Intelligence Structures Project

For computers to help people in the detection of interactions on web sites like Facebook and Twitter that lead to real world violence, they need knowledge of real world situations.

This project combines qualitative analyses of interviews of urban gang-involved youth with crowdsourcing to generate a resource for building intelligent computer systems to decode the non-standard language and unusual situations around violence escalation.

Through the scalable construction of narrative intelligence knowledge structures (such as scripts) we build language understanding systems that can scan social media posts, make inferences, and detect escalations to help community organizations intervene in potentially violent situations that evolve online.
