Mirinda Morency received her Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University with a concentration in Advanced Clinical Practice. Her research interests include the multiple occurrences of trauma (e.g., exposure to offline/online violence) during adolescence and its cognitive, behavioral, and developmental correlates. She hopes to create and improve upon clinical methods to help restore the psyche to wholeness. There is an emphasis on capitalizing on the strengths of urban youth and young adults and promoting resiliency and well-being in the face of trauma. As a researcher and a licensed social worker, Mirinda hopes to ultimately help youth who are labeled at-risk lead positive lives, becoming agents of change themselves and productive citizens of their communities. Her current projects include understanding the complex dynamics in digital spaces, particularly its relation to mental wellness, uses of social media by youth, and social media-motivated mass incarceration.
