Durrell Malik Washington Sr. is pursuing a Masters in Social Work with a Concentration in Policy and Contemporary Social Issues. Before Columbia, Durrell graduated with honors from CUNY York College, earning a Bachelor’s of Science, majoring in Social Work with a minor in Sociology. While at York, Durrell served as the Vice President of the S.W.E.E.T. (Social Work Empowering and Encouraging Together) Club, was a member of the Male Initiative Program and its different components, and served on the Social Work Departments Advisory Board. During his tenure at York, Durrell has been featured in several CUNY newsletters displaying his involvement in the community, as well as constructed presentations on policy concerns and, or, reform to be presented to local legislative representatives annually in Albany. Some of his interest are research which focuses on the trauma caused by mass incarceration, recidivism, global prison systems and racial violence vs inter-racial violence.
