Amanda Katha Weiss is an MSW candidate in public policy at Columbia University. Formerly the managing editor of Pearson’s The Sociology Project line of textbooks, Amanda has coauthored chapters on family demography and substance abuse as a sociopolitical problem. Her research looks at hate violence, health policy and inequality, and their intersections. Her current projects examine subnational hate crime data collection as inflected by national policy, and social welfare incentives surrounding the care of seniors. Amanda is interested in quantitative methods and their application to social policy theory and research.
Amanda is currently co-editor-in-chief of the Columbia Social Work Review. In her time at CSSW, Amanda has also interned at the YM/YWHA of Washington Heights & Inwood and founded the CSSW Jewish Caucus. She graduated Columbia College of Columbia University with a BA magna cum laude.
